Hitmen Fall to Blades in Overtime

Calgary, AB- The Calgary Hitmen were back on home ice this afternoon to host the Saskatoon Blades at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut'ina Nation. Calgary collected a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to Saskatoon.

Carter Yakemchuk was the lone scorer in the first netting one for Calgary with under three minutes remaining in the period. Saskatoon found the back of the net twice in the second period to gain their first lead of the game. Brandon Lisowsky scored the tying goal, while Jake Chiasson followed up to make it 2-1.

With Ethan Buenaventura on the bench, Yakemchuk was able to tie the game with under two minutes left sending the game into overtime. Multiple chances and a stellar save for Buenaventura wasn't enough, as Egor Sidorov put one past Buenaventura winning the game in extra minutes. With both Calgary goals, Yakemchuk earned first star of the game. The second year defenceman also reached the milestone of 100 career games played.

Calgary wraps up the weekend tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 29 by hosting Winnipeg in their first meeting of the season with the ICE. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome for another Sunday Funday, presented by Brookfield Residential. In addition to $2 sips and snacks specials all game long, look for concourse activities from TELUS Spark and a cast of characters outfitted by the Costume Shoppe. There are also $6 Hitmen Happy Hour food and drink deals throughout the day and a post-game family skate.
