Rivalry Night

The best rivalry in the WHL is back on the ice tonight as Portland battles Seattle. The Hawks and T-Birds have run away atop the U.S. Division, separated by just one point in first and second place. The Winterhawks have won four consecutive contests (more on that below) and six of their last eight, while the Thunderbirds have won three straight and five of their last seven. Both teams added to their rosters at the trade deadline, with Portland adding Chaz Lucius - who has notched 10 points in his first four games - and Seattle dealing several draft picks to acquire more big names from around the league who have already made an impact for the T-Birds.

The Hawks have taken three of five wins against the Birds this season, including a rousing comeback win on Teddy Bear Toss Night last month. All that adds up to what should be another fantastic chapter in this storied rivalry. Don't miss it!

Connect Four

With last night's win over Swift Current, the Hawks have begun to pick up steam after a couple of stumbles on their East Division road trip. Four straight wins on home ice have the team flying high, led by a scoring touch that has seen the Hawks notch five or more goals in each game. The return of Luca Cagnoni from the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game provided even more depth to the Hawks' attack last night, as the Burnaby, B.C. native chipped in two points from the blue line.

"Feels great (to be back), don't have too many systems with the Top Prospects game, so it's good to be back with a system where you know where everyone's gonna be. Obviously, I thought we played really well tonight, and now we just gotta keep on going for Seattle (tomorrow)," he said postgame.

While players like James Stefan, Gabe Klassen, Robbie Fromm-Delorme and the aforementioned Lucius continue to dominate offensively, the Hawks will lean on depth scoring when facing top competition like Seattle. Look for defensemen like Cagnoni to be active in the offensive zone tonight.
