Hitmen Crush Ice to Move within Game of Advancing

Cranbrook, BC - Connor Rankin scored his first career WHL playoff hat-trick as the Calgary Hitmen defeated the Kootenay Ice 7-2 on Wednesday evening at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook.

Adam Tambellini, who recorded a hat-trick in last night's overtime victory, picked up an assist on all three of Rankin's markers while scoring one of his own to extend his point streak to four games. The Hitmen, who built period leads of 2-1 and 5-1, also received goals from Kenton Helgesen, Chase Lang and Travis Sanheim.

Jaedon Descheneau and Tyler King contributed with goals for Kootenay as Calgary goaltender Brendan Burke turned aside 28 of 30 shots to record the win, securing a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-seven Round 1 series.

The Hitmen and Ice will now return to the Scotiabank Saddledome for Game 5 on Friday, Apr. 3 at 7:00 p.m. Playoff tickets, starting at $19 for adults and $13 for children and students, are available at all Ticketmaster and the Scotiabank Saddledome box office. A buffet will be served in the Chrysler Club before each home playoff game, with doors opening 90 minutes prior to puck drop.
