Winterhawks Fall 5-2 in Seattle in Game 3

The Portland Winterhawks fell 5-2 to the Seattle Thunderbirds in Game 3 of their first round playoff series Tuesday in Kent, WA.

Seattle took a 2-1 lead in the series, with Game 4 Thursday at 7 p.m. in Kent.

The Thunderbirds took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Scott Eansor and Roberts Lipsbergs.

The Hawks came out flying to open the second, with numerous scoring chances early in the frame. They got on the board at 1:37 when Dominic Turgeon pounced on a loose puck in the slot and fired it past Seattle netminder Taran Kozun to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Seattle went back up by two on a power play at the 4:12 mark when Alexander True tipped a point shot into the net for a 3-1 advantage they took into the third.

The Thunderbirds made it 4-1 on a goal by Jerret Smith 4:06 into the third. Late in the period Nic Petan wired a shot that got through traffic and beat Kozun get Portland within two at 4-2. But with 1:26 to go in the third and Winterhawks netminder Adin Hill on the bench for an extra attacker, Smith scored into the empty net for his second of the game and the 5-2 win.

Hill made 24 saves on 28 shots, with Seattle adding the empty net marker. Kozun stopped 35 of 37 Portland shots.
