TIGERS FAST FACTS:
Medicine Hat holds the playoff edge against the Rebels over the past 5 seasons, a 6-1-0-0 record Trevor Cox also extended his point streak to 9 games after scoring the overtime winner on Sunday Tigers goaltender Marek Langhamer has started the last 10 of 11 games for Medicine Hat, posting 3 shutouts in that span The Tigers last played an overtime game (before Sunday) in the postseason last year, March 26th against the Swift Current Broncos, the Tigers lost 2-1
LAST GAME: Another dramatic game against the Rebels took place on Sunday night when a scoreless game made its way to overtime. There aren't many scoreless games anymore in the fast paced WHL but Sunday was an exception as both head coaches had their team playing tight defence and executing their systems to perfection. It was also a goaltenders battle as Marek Langhamer and Rylan Toth went save for save throughout the game preserving the shut out for their respective clubs. Trevor Cox however would end things just over the midway point of overtime as he streaked down the wing and shot the puck from a bad angle, almost in the corner. Toth was caught cheating, playing the pass and Cox found a hole short side for the game winner, 1-0, sending the Tigers faithful home happy.
PUT THE TEAM ON THEIR BACK: During the playoffs and majority of the regular season each team relies on one guy or a duo of players to lead the team in scoring, defence or in net, for the Tigers Trevor Cox and Marek Langhamer have done just that. Cox was the WHL's leading scorer for majority of the second half and led the team with 109 points. Meanwhile Langhamer was his usual self leading the Tigers with 30 victories in goal and a stellar GAA with 2.81. If the Tigers are to have success this postseason, both players will have to continue to lead by example.
