Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (22-18), fell to the Hillsboro Hops (25-15), by a final score of 5-4 on Wednesday night. It was the third extra-innings game the Hawks have played with Hillsboro in the last four meetings.
Hillsboro scored quickly in the 1st. After Boise starter Alec Byrd got two quick outs in the bottom of the 1st, Byrd allowed a double to Jose Caballero and then it was a two-run home run for Joey Rose. Hillsboro had the lead at 2-0 after the 1st inning.
After Byrd allowed the home run, he came back and gave the Hawks six innings, allowing two runs.
In the 6th inning the Hawks got on the board. Cole Anderson hit his 3rd home run of the season and Boise made it a 2-1 game, Hillsboro leading by just a run. In the 8th inning the Hawks took the lead. Back-to-back sacrifice fly's for LeeMarcus Boyd and Cade Harris gave the Hawks a 3-2 advantage.
After Mike Bunal went two scoreless innings for the Hawks, Boise gave the ball to Hunter Williams in the 9th inning. Williams retired the first two batters he faced, but then allowed a single to Francis Martinez. Jake McCarthy came up and hit a high fly-ball into shallow right-field. Kennard McDowell, Boise's second baseman went over and couldn't corral it, allowing Martinez to score from 1st base. Hillsboro tied it at three and we went to extra-innings.
Boise got an RBI single from Cade Harris, scoring Cole Anderson and the Hawks took a 4-3 lead in the 10th inning. In the home-half of the inning, Jeffry Valdez came on in relief for the Hawks. He got two quick outs to keep the pinch-runner Keshawn Lynch on second base. He started there because of the new extra-innings format where you start with a runner on second base in extra innings.
The Hawks intentionally walked Jorge Perez with two outs. After a wild pitch to L.T. Tolbert allowing both runners to advance to second and third, Tolbert singled up the middle and Hillsboro won the game 5-4.
Jefry Valdez ends up being the losing pitcher while Kai-Wei Lin picks up the win for Hillsboro. Cole Anderson finishes with a 4-5 night for the Hawks with an RBI and two runs scored.
Boise and Hillsboro will play the final game of the series tomorrow. First pitch is at 8:05 p.m. MT and can be heard on 101.5 KOOL-FM.
The Hawks will return home on Friday, July 27th at 7:15 p.m. to take on the Tri-City Dust Devils. Friday will be the Youth Soccer Ball Giveaway presented by Pepsi. The first 1,000 kids 12-and-under will receive a soccer ball.
