Everett AquaSox News Release
Everett, WA - Troy Dixon led the charge for the Frogs at the plate going 2-for-3 with a walk-off home run in the rubber match against the Vancouver Canadians on Thursday. Strong pitching by the AquaSox allowed the Canadians to only have six base runners the entire game. The Frogs played an 11:05 AM day game in front of 2,289 fans.
Michael Plassmeyer got the nod for the AquaSox Thursday against Vancouver and did not disappoint. The Mariners 2018 fourth-round draft pick entered the day with the teams lowest WHIP and ERA of any starting pitcher. That trend continued for Plassmeyer, as he threw two scoreless innings, retiring six of the seven batters he faced. He decreased his ERA is from 2.14 to 1.84.
Ivan Fortunato replaced Plassmeyer on the mound in the third inning and gave up a solo home to Mc Gregory Contreras, his fifth on the year.
The Frogs wouldn't let the contest get away from them and mustered up a two-run two-out rally in the fourth inning. After Bobby Honeyman knocked a single to right field, Nick Rodriguez walked, placing runners on first and second base. A pair of singles from Troy Dixon and Connor Hoover brought home two AquaSox runs, 2-1. Honeyman and Hoover both continued their hot streaks Thursday. The pair has combined for 23 hits in the past 10 games.
Fortunato had a spectacular outing for the AquaSox. After the right-hander allowed a home run in the third inning, Fortunato pitched four scoreless innings. He exited the game in the seventh inning with 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 SO, and 1 BB.
The right-handed reliever, Noah Zavolas inherited a one-run game in the top of the eighth inning with an opportunity to seal the game for Everett. Zavolas retired one batter, but Canadian's Contreras had other plans in mind. The Toronto prospect hit his second solo home run of the ballgame, this time tying the game, 2-2. The Sox were unable to score in the bottom of the eighth inning and the teams would head into the ninth inning.
After popping out Christopher Bec in the top of the ninth, Zavolas would be replaced by the left-handed reliever and Stetson product, Benjamin Onyshko. Onyshko would strike out Griffin Conine and Yorman Rodriguez would ground out to Ryne Ogren leaving the door open for the second straight walk-off win for the Frogs.
Dixon would be the leadoff batter in the bottom of the ninth. The count would go to 1-1 when Dixon would unleash on a ball and hit it foul to the Pepsi Picnic Pavilion in right field. The next pitch would also be crushed but this time over the right field fence in fair territory for his first home run of the season and his third professional home run. Sox walk it off for the second time in 15 hours.
The AquaSox will hit the road Friday, as they begin a five-game series against Salem-Keizer. When they return, Everett will play five games against Boise before heading into the All-Star Game in Grand Junction, Colorado.
