LYNCHBURG HILLCATS (0-4, 29-45) vs. MYRTLE BEACH PELICANS (3-1, 48-26)

June 21st, 2008 -- 6:05 PM

Calvin Falwell Field @ Lynchburg City Stadium

LHP Brian Holliday (1-7, 6.63) vs. RHP Jeff Lyman (1-2, 3.40)

THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg got hammered by Myrtle Beach 22-3 in the opening game of a three-game series...The Cats have now matched their season-high with five consecutive losses and have started the second half 0-4...Tonight the Hillcats play the middle-game of the three-game set with the Pelicans that will be the final three games before the All-Star break...

VS. MYRTLE BEACH: Last season the Hillcats won the series series against the Pelicans 12-8...Myrtle Beach holds the all-time advantage 101-86 and are 47-45 at City Stadium...This season the Birds are 6-4 against the Cats and have won three-out-of-four in Lynchburg...

ANOTHER HISTORIC NIGHT: Last night Myrtle Beach scored 22 runs in their 22-3 thumping of Lynchburg...The 22 runs scored matched the most runs ever scored against the Hillcats (the record was set 8/22/07 when Kinston accomplished the feat at Grainger Stadium) and it was the most Myrtle Beach has ever scored in their franchise history...The 21 hits also matched the most Lynchburg has allowed this season (5/27 at Potomac)...This a night after Kinston scored 13 runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to their 13-8 win over Lynchburg...The 13 runs were the most against the Hillcats this season in an inning and the most against the Cats in their 14-year history (previous record was nine runs matched earlier this season against Salem on May 21st)...It was also the most runs that the Indians have scored this season in an inning...13 runs is still four short of the all-time league record of 17 runs in a frame (accomplished three times, most recently by Winston-Salem on June 11th, 1953)...

SECOND INNING WOES: Last night the Hillcats allowed seven runs in the second inning...On Thursday night Kinston scored 13 against Lynchburg in the second...The Cats have been outscored 20-1 in those two innings combined...Myrtle Beach also had a six-run and five-run inning in their victory last night...

FORGETTABLE STARTS: The last two games the Hillcats two starters, RHP Michael Crotta and LHP Daniel Moskos had their worst starts of their careers...Crotta allowed nine earned runs in an inning plus on Thursday and Moskos allowed seven earned runs in two innings of action...It was the most earned runs either had given up in their careers...

SWITCHING SPOTS: Last night Angel Gonzalez played shortstop and Greg Picart played second base for the Hillcats...Every other time the two have formed the middle infield this season Gonzalez has been at second and Picart has been at short...Last season Picart would play second and Gonzalez was at short when the two were on the diamond together...Last night was just the second time this season Gonzalez has played shortstop after playing the position the last four seasons...

ERA BOOM: In the 22-3 loss last night the Hillcats had a position player pitch for the third time this season and for the second time this year it was OF James Barksdale...The lefthander pitched 1/3 of an inning without allowing an eanred run in his first outing...After allowing five earned runs in last night's appearance his ERA went from 0.00 to 33.75...

DONE WITH K-TRIBE: After seven games and eight days of playing nobody but Kinston, the Hillcats welcomed Myrtle Beach to town for a three-game series last night...Lynchburg played a rare home and home series with Kinston in which the Indians won five-out-of-seven games, including a three-game series sweep of the Cats at Grainger Stadium...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Jeff Lyman is making his first start of the season for Myrtle Beach after 20 appearances out of the bullpen for the Pelicans...The 2005 second round selection of the Atlanta Braves has gone 1-2 with a 3.40 ERA this season...Last season the righthander went 0-5 with an 8.90 ERA in eight games (two starts) for the Pelicans after starting the year with Low-A Rome and going 5-8 with a 4.59 ERA in 20 starts...In 2006 he spent the majority of his time in Rome and went 6-6 with a 4.49 ERA in 22 games (18 starts) and in his first professional season in 2005 he went 0-3 with a 4.24 ERA...Despite tonight's appearance being Lyman's first start of the season, he has made 49 starts in his professional career...
