Craig Stammen advanced to Harrisburg

WOODBRIDGE, Va.- The Potomac Nationals announced today that pitcher Craig Stammen has been added to Double-A Harrisburg, and right-hander Josh Wilkie will replace Stammen on the Carolina League All-Star roster.

Stammen went 4-2 while posting the Carolina League's lowest ERA (2.21) in 15 appearances with Potomac this season. The Versailles, Ohio, native helped anchor the Nationals pitching staff that ranked second in the Carolina League with a 3.38 ERA through 74 games.

The right-hander receives his second promotion of the season after he made an appearance for Triple-A Columbus on May 1st pitching two innings and allowing one run.

The Dayton University product spent the majority of the 2007 season with the P-Nats prior to a late season call-up to Triple-A. He ranked second among hurlers in wins (8), games started (22), innings pitched (125), and strikeouts (96). The right-hander finished the season 8-6 with a 4.18 ERA while appearing in 28 games.

A former 12th-round pick by the Nationals in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, Stammen has a 12-10 record with a 3.77 ERA in 50 career games with Potomac.

Wilkie, one of the top relievers out the Nationals bullpen has dominated Carolina League hitters this season. The Georgia-native has appeared in 25 games going 0-0 with a microscopic 1.00 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .097 batting average.

The former George Washington Colonial earns the first All-Star selection of his three-year career joining fellow P-Nats Edgardo Baez and Matt Rogelstad in Myrtle Beach. The 23-year-old led Low-A Hagerstown in 2007 with 47 appearances and 11 saves while posting a 3-6 record.
