LAST TIME OUT: Lynchburg had a good night at the plate, recording 10 hits, but they weren't able to overcome a huge night from 3B Drew Dosch, as they dropped the first of three to Frederick on Monday night, 6-4...The Hillcats grabbed the lead in the first inning when RF Bradley Zimmer beat out an infield single, advanced to second, stole third, and came home on an RBI single from 1B Nellie Rodriguez, who finished the game 3-for-4 with a double..RHP Michael Peoples dazzled in the first four frames, allowing only one baserunner on an error in the first...He didn't give up his first hit until the fifth, but a lead-off single by DH Brenden Webb was followed by a Dosch two-run homer to give Frederick a 2-1 lead...The 'Cats ran into more trouble in the sixth when they allowed three runs on four hits, including an RBI single from 1B Trey Mancini and an RBI triple from Dosch to make it 5-1...Lynchburg got one back in the sixth thanks to an Alex Monsalve single to right that scored Zimmer...In the seventh, the 'Cats plated two more on CF Clint Frazier's first RBI of the year, a double to right, followed by an RBI double from 3B Paul Hendrix to make it 5-4...The Keys scored their last run in the ninth on an RBI double from Dosch to make the final score 6-4...Dosch's final line was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, a double, triple, and a home run, leaving him a single away from the cycle.
VS. FREDERICK: Lynchburg played the Keys at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium last week and were swept in a three-game series...Going back to last year, the Hillcats have dropped seven straight against Frederick...Clint Frazier leads the Hillcats with a .400 average against Frederick, including his only RBI of the season...Tucker Nathans paces Frederick against the Cats with a .444 average and three RBIs, while Trey Mancini is .333 with a double, a triple and three RBIs...
SHOULD I GRAB A BROOM? The last three series between the two teams have resulted in a sweep, including a Lynchburg triumph in Frederick July 25-27 last season...The 'Cats also swept Frederick earlier in 2014 at home to account for two of the team's four sweeps last year...
A LITTLE HELP, PLEASE: RHP Adam Plutko has failed to earn a victory despite a quality start in each of his first two outings...The UCLA product ranks second in the league with an opponents' batting average of only .119, but he has an 0-1 record for the season...In his last outing against Potomac, Plutko only allowed two hits in 6.2 innings and left with a 2-1 lead to his name...In his first start, the right-hander took a hard-luck loss in the first game of a doubleheader after pitching a complete game and only allowing one run on a solo homer by Jayson Werth...Unfortunately for Plutko, the feeling is familiar...Last year with the Carolina Mudcats, Plutko had a 2-4 record in quality starts...Plutko's luck against Frederick mirrors the rest of his High-A experience, as he is 0-1 against the Keys in two starts despite a 2.13 ERA and a .205 batting average against...
HOME COOKIN': Lynchburg's offense has started to find its stride at City Stadium after a rough road trip that saw the team hit .192 in the first seven games of the season...The 'Cats averaged 2.4 runs per game during that span but are averaging 5.4 runs per game at home...Additionally, Lynchburg has a .287 batting average with 15 doubles and six home runs at Calvin Falwell Field...
NOW WALK IT OUT: Lynchburg has not drawn a walk in three straight games...The last free pass issued to a Hillcats hitter was to Nellie Rodriguez with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning...Ironically, the Hillcats received three walks in the frame...Since then, the Hillcats have batted 30 consecutive innings without a walk, which covers a total of 127 plate appearances...Through 12 games, the Hillcats have already had four contests where they failed to walk after having only nine such occurrences all of last season...In a potentially related note, Lynchburg currently leads the Carolina League with 91 strikeouts...
