Game #12 (Home Game #5)

CAROLINA CRUISES PAST DASH MONDAY

Carolina posted five scoring frames, and the Mudcats reached base 17 times in a 10-5 victory over Winston-Salem in Monday's series opener at BB&T Ballpark. Dash righty Tony Bucciferro permitted a career high-tying seven runs over five and a third innings. Then, Jefferson Olacio surrendered three runs in the seventh frame, which put the game out of reach. Thus, Winston has dropped five straight games, the club's third skid of five or more games since August of 2014 (eight, August 5-13; seven, August 21-27).

POSITIVES FROM MONDAY

The Da sh d id drop to 0-4 on th eir first homestand at BB&T Ballpark, but the offense did post a strong showing. Winston-Salem scored five runs, its highest total since kicking off the 2015 campaign with a 13-0 blowout of the Frederick Keys on April 9. Both Adam Engel and Trey Michalczewski notched multi-RBI games.

SPEEDY DUO

Winston-Salem paces the Carolina League with 17 stolen bases, largely thanks to the speedy tandem of Adam Engel and Keenyn Walker. Both men have swiped seven bases, which places them in a share of sixth place in all of Minor League Baseball. Their combined 14 stolen bases are second among teammate duos in the Minor Leagues. Only Jorge Mateo (13) and Abiatal Avelino (12) of the Charleston RiverDogs (Low-A, Yankees) have more, and they have collected 25 in the squad's 11 games.

RARE HOME FUNK

Dating back to last season, the Dash have dropped nine home games in a row. This marks the longest losing streak since the club moved into BB&T Ballpark in April of 2010. In fact, the Dash have only suffered four home losing streaks of four or more games in the BB&T Ballpark era (2010-present). This current skid marks Winston's longest since at least 2004. Still, the Dash's 205-149 (.579) home record in the last five-plus seasons paces all CL teams.

A BIG DIFFERENCE

Before this homestand began, Winston-Salem boasted a 2.65 earned run average, which was second-lowest in the Carolina League. However, the Dash's ERA has jumped up to 4.12 (second-to-last in the CL) thanks to a tough first four home games, during which the club has logged a 6.75 ERA. The biggest increase has come from the starting rotation, which had a 1.70 ERA on the seven-game road trip and has an 8.38 mark thus far on the first homestand of 2015.

RODON JOINS WHITE SOX

Former Winston-Salem lefty Carlos Rodon earned a promotion to the White Sox, the club announced Monday. Rodon skyrocketed through the Minor Leagues, making just 11 appearances and eight starts. In 2014, he pitched for the Dash four times, posting a 1.86 and striking out 15 over nine and two-thirds innings. The former North Carolina State star did not appear in his first big league game, a walk-off 4-3 win for the Sox over Cleveland on Monday night.

PRIME PITCHING MATCHUP WEDNESDAY

After Matt Heidenreich makes his first start at BB&T Ballpark since July of 2012, right-hander James Dykstra, the reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week, will start in the homestand finale on Wednesday. He will face off with right-hander Lucas Sims, a top 100 prospect in the Minor Leagues and one of the Braves' top pitching farmhands. Dykstra is one of four pitchers in the Minor Leagues with at least 13 innings of work and no runs on his resum e. He has given up jus t one hit this season.

DASH DOTS

Outfielder Nick Basto registered a two-hit game on Monday...He had been mired in a season-long 2-for-33 (.061) funk before that showing... Righty Zach Isler twirled his longest outing as a Winston-Salem hurler on Monday...He worked three perfect innings...In his last 16 outings dating back to mid-July of last year, Isler owns a 1.45 ERA (3 ER in 18.2 IP).
