High Point Rockers Home Opener Set for May 2nd, 2019

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The High Point Rockers announced their inaugural home opener will take place on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019. The announcement came as part of the latest BB&T Point Progress Party where fans also walked the concourse of the future home of the Rockers. While the opponent is not yet known, the countdown to professional baseball in High Point is officially underway! The full Atlantic League schedule is expected to be released within the next 30 days.
"The inaugural home game in the history of the High Point Rockers is only 209 days away," boasted Ken Lehner, Rockers Team President. "The date may seem far off right now, but the reality is there is never enough time to build a ballpark or a baseball team. So, internally, we have our work cut out for us. As for our fans, all they have to do is circle May 2nd on their calendar and get excited for Rockers baseball at BB&T Point!"
The date was unveiled as part of a special "rocking out" ceremony where a custom designed "rocket chair" was launched to the top of BB&T Point, currently under construction by Samet Construction. Donated and decorated by Troutman Chair Company, the producers of the famous Kennedy Rocker and maker of rocking chairs in North Carolina for 94 years, it will remain atop the future home of the Rockers until required to be removed to complete construction.
As part of the festivities, fans were able to walk along the concourse of the stadium, marking the first time "game day views" have been made available to the public. There were also a bevy of prizes and giveaways for all as High Point 911 Kids handed out custom pencil cases to the first 250 children under the age of 13, while Northwood Animal Hospital sponsored a trio of contests for fans and their canine counterparts. Keep High Point Beautiful and numerous local food truck and craft breweries were also on hand to add to the excitement.
Amber Marks was randomly selected as the winner of the "Guess the Opening Day" Contest, a fan contest where Rockers supporters could submit their guesses for 2019 Opening Day, but were required to be in attendance to win. By correctly guessing May 2nd, she wins a pair of Rockers hats, two Rockers t-shirts, and a pair of tickets to the home opener on May 2nd.
Despite the home opening date being announced, single-game tickets will not go on sale until the spring. As such, the only way to guarantee attendance at the first ever game at BB&T Point, is to purchase 2019 season tickets. Thursday's event was the second-to-last of the planned BB&T Point Progress Parties with the final one scheduled for Thursday, October 4th. It will be located next to the team offices in Downtown High Point, with the tour destination still to be determined. However, with it being October, it's sure to be a scary good time as the team offices will be converted in to a Haunted House!!
