Lexington Legends News Release
Hickory starter Braden Tullis allowed five hits and one run through seven innings, and the Crawdads defeated the Lexington Legends 3-1 Friday night at Applebee's Park, ending the Legends winning streak at four games.
Lexington opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. Kody Hinze led off the inning with a single through the left side of the infield. An error by Crawdads' shortstop Jonathan Roof allowed Aaron Bray to reach base as Hinze went to second. After Jonathan Meyer flied out to center field and Jiovanni Mier struck out swinging, Rene Garcia lined a single to center. Hinze scored, but Garcia was tagged out between first and second before Bray could cross the plate.
The Crawdads responded in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Travis Adair singled up the middle. He moved up to second base on a wild pitch by starter Luis Cruz, and scored on a double by Joe Bonadonna to tie the game at 1-1.
Hickory took the lead in the top of the fourth on a solo home run to center field by Zach Zaneski. The Crawdads added to the lead in the top of the seventh. Guillermo Pimentel led off the inning with a ground-rule double over the right-center field wall. A single by Jonathan Roof moved Pimentel to third base. With Travis Adair at the plate, Roof was picked off first for the first out of the inning. Adair followed with an infield hit on a slow ground ball to second baseman Miguel Arrendell, scoring Pimentel.
After the run scored, Adair walked off the bag at first and Arrendell threw to Bray, who applied the tag for the second out. Third baseman Jonathan Meyer made a diving catch of a line drive hit by Jared Prince to end the inning.
The Legends put two runners on base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but could not score. Tullis (4-0) picked up the win, allowing one unearned run in seven innings, while striking out six and walking none.. Cruz (4-2) was the losing pitcher.
The series continues Saturday night at Applebee's Park. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
