Hershey Bears News Release

The Hershey Bears Hockey Club picked up three of a possible six points over their three-game weekend, keeping the club in second place in the East Division and in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

The club began the weekend on Friday with their second and final regular- season visit to the Onondaga County War Memorial to take on the Syracuse Crunch. Stanislav Galiev netted his eighth goal of the season and sixth on the power play, firing a Connor Carrick pass behind Andrei Vasilevskiy. But the Crunch would battle and even the game early in the second, when captain Mike Angelidis stuffed a shot from the goal line behind Philipp Grubauer. The Bears took control in the third period, but after a penalty handed out late in the frame, Hershey found itself down one man for just the second time in the game. On the power play, Joel Vermin got a stick on a Dylan Blujus slap shot and tipped it home for the winner. The Crunch would add goals from Dalton Smith and Henri Ikonen (empty net) to seal the win. Vasilevskiy won again by stopping everything he faced after allowing the first goal of the game, finishing with 29 saves.

On Saturday, the Bears returned home to face the Binghamton Senators for the first time all season. The hosts did not disappoint, storming out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Chris Brown and Philippe Cornet. The Sens took their timeout but were unable to get a goal before the intermission. The visitors did strike in the second, however, when Derek Grant tipped a Shane Prince pass behind Pheonix Copley for a power play marker. But the Bears were again too much, as Galiev and Tim Kennedy struck just 1:36 apart for a 4-1 lead. Grant's second of the game came just 1:06 into the third and gave Binghamton some life. But Chris Conner, who accepted his CCM/AHL Player of the Week award prior to the game, finished a four-point night with an empty-net tally, helping Hershey to a 5-2 victory. Copley made 18 saves for his second consecutive win.

On Sunday, the Bears were in control in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after a Carrick power-play goal gave Hershey a 1-0 lead in the second. But two goals by Jean-Sebastien Dea and Dominik Uher - separated by just 38 seconds - gave the hosts a 2-1 lead. With the Bears net empty inside the final minute, Brown would fire a slapper past Jeff Zatkoff from inside the blue line with just 2.7 seconds left to play, giving the Bears a big point. But in overtime, after Grubauer denied a four-on-one rush, Conor Sheary set up Adam Payerl for the winner 3:10 into overtime.
