Hershey Bears News Release

The BEARS return to action tonight for the first time since the passing of "Mr. HERSHEY BEARS Hockey", Frank Mathers as the team faces off in Wilkes-Barre for the third consecutive Friday. Mathers passed away Wednesday night at the age of 80 after serving the club as a player, coach, general manager and team president. The team will wear a memorial patch beginning tonight for the remainder of the season that features the initials "FSM" and the number 3, which is Mathers' retired uniform number.

HERSHEY stands seven points out of a playoff spot as action begins tonight, but only eight points out of first place. A three-way tie between the Penguins, Norfolk Admirals and Binghamton Senators creates a logjam atop the East Division with 61 points as play starts Friday. Philadelphia stands in fourth place with 60 points after a victory at Norfolk Wednesday night while HERSHEY has 53 points following a 4-3 shootout win at Lowell on Wednesday.

Tonight's game can be heard on the BEARS radio network and www.pennlive.com. John Walton calls the action from Wachovia Arena beginning at 6:45 p.m. The BEARS return home tomorrow for the only time this week with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers playing at GIANT Center at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for Saturday's game are available at the GIANT Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.
