Toivonen sets franchise mark in win

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins and Manchester Monarchs played the fifth game of their 10-game season series on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, with the Bruins skating to a 3-0 decision. The shutout victory was the team's second in as many games, and third in its last four. Providence is now 5-1-1-0 in its last seven games, taking 11 of a possible 14 points over that span. The Bruins are in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with their 25-18-3-6 record (59 points), two points behind Worcester.

Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen (20-14-3) established a new franchise record with his third consecutive shutout. The 20-year-old native of Kalvola, Finland turned aside all 32 shots he faced on the night. Toivonen leads the AHL with seven shutouts, and ranks second in franchise history with nine in 76 games. Tim Thomas holds the franchise mark with 10.

Bruin center Patrice Bergeron scored what proved to be the game-winner on his 16th goal of the season, at 17:56 of the first period. Left wing Andy Hilbert added his team-leading 27th goal of the season, while center Keith Aucoin notched his 14th of the year. Aucoin also had an assist, and has points (5-7-12) in seven of his last eight games.

Center Brad Boyes had an assist in the game, extending his point streak to seven games. The 22-year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario has 5-4-9 totals over that stretch.

Prior to the start of the game, CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust Representative Lucille Bush presented a $15,000 check to the Big Brothers of Rhode Island. Val Sinesi, Executive Director of Big Brothers of Rhode Island, Big Brother Bill Sandberg and his little brother Nkosi Anthony were on hand to accept the check.

The Bruins visit the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550 and online at www.providencebruins.com.

The Bruins return home to host the Albany River Rats on Friday, February 18 at 7:05 p.m., and Springfield on Sunday, February 20 at 4:05.
