The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club extended a franchise record for consecutive home wins this past weekend, sweeping the Manitoba Moose 8-3 and 8-2 at Giant Center. With the victories, HERSHEY has now won 14 straight home games, and the club also holds a 17-point East Division lead over second place Albany, and a 26-point edge over third place Wilkes- Barre/Scranton.

The BEARS travel to Wilkes-Barre Friday night to face the Penguins at 7:05 p.m. before returning home this weekend to face Albany Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Binghamton returns to Giant Center Sunday to close out the month of January with a 5:00 p.m. faceoff. HERSHEY is a combined 9-2-0-0 this season against the Senators and Penguins. Tickets for both games are on sale now at the Giant Center box office or by calling (717) 534-3911.

Moose hunting: The BEARS humbled the Manitoba Moose this past weekend, winning 8-3 on Friday and 8-2 on Saturday night. The two wins allowed HERSHEY to sweep the four- game season series with the defending Western Conference champions, as the Chocolate and White also swept a two-game set in Winnipeg on January 8-9.

Supercharged offense: HERSHEY'S offense has been nothing short of sensational of late. The BEARS have scored an amazing 37 goals over the last five games, an average of 7.4 goals per game in that span. HERSHEY struck for 10 goals back on January 15 in Albany, the first time since 1992 that the BEARS had posted a double- digit effort in a single game. Mark French's team then outscored Manitoba this past weekend 16-5 in two games played.

Practice schedule: The BEARS will skate Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Giant Center this week in preparations for this weekend's games. All practices this week will begin at 10:00 p.m.

Leaders of the pack: Keith Aucoin and Alexandre Giroux continue for the second year in a row to rank 1-2 in the American Hockey League in scoring. Aucoin, who also leads the AHL in goals with 25, has 61 points to lead the circuit, with Giroux second with 55 points. Linemate Andrew Gordon is eighth in the AHL in scoring heading into the new week with 44 points of his own.

First place Caps: Washington, winners of six in a row, travels to Long Island Tuesday night to face the Islanders prior to a three-game home stand that starts Wednesday against Anaheim. Florida visits Friday night at Verizon Center before Tampa Bay comes to town Sunday. Washington is tops in the Southeast Division and the Eastern Conference with 72 points.
