Hernandez's Second Homer Wins It in 10

Camden, NJ - Michael Hernandez's two homers accounted for the first and last runs of the game, his second coming in the top of the 10th giving the Somerset Patriots a 5-4 lead en route to a win over the Camden Riversharks on Thursday night at Campbells Field. Somerset took three of four from the Sharks in their final trip to Camden.

The series featured a cornucopia of clutch base hits and Hernandez continued the trend. Ryan McKellar (4-6) had given up a 10th inning homer on Monday night to Matt Hagen in a 3-2 10-inning Somerset victory and the big Texan gave up the Hernandez big fly on Thursday as well.

Hernandez opened up the scoring in the fourth with a leadoff solo homer on Mike Madsen. Three batters later, Noah Hall jacked a two-run shot and Wayne Lydon added an RBI to put the Patriots up 4-0, staking starter Jason Monti to an edge.

Monti tossed 4.1 innings without a hit until Estee Harris, Juan Francia, and Matt Ceriani all notched knocks on the right-hander, all three coming into score in a three-run 5th. Monti finished 5.0 innings, striking out six with three walks. Neither starter would factor in the decision as Francia came up in the 8th and banged a run-scoring triple off Jeff Kennard, tying the game at 4-4. Hernandez came up in the 10th to give the Patriots the lead and Scott Williamson tossed a scoreless 10th for his third save of the series.

Somerset (25-23, 61-57) starts a six-game homestand on Friday night, opening with three against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Jon Ellis (2-2) will square off with Craig Anderson (9-2) at 7:00 pm on 1450 WCTC-AM and online at www.wctcam.com and www.somersetpatriots.com .
