(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 27, 2010) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of infielder Victor Mercedes. He joins the Bluefish for his second season in the Atlantic League and eighth of professional baseball.

He began the 2010 season with Oaxaca of the Mexican League. In 101 contests, he recorded a .336 batting average with 29 doubles, eight home runs, 83 runs scored, and 81 RBI over the course of 426 at-bats.

The infielder has reached as high as Double-A with four different teams (Nationals, Pirates, White Sox, and Dodgers). Victor was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1999 and has a .267 average in his Minor-League career with 106 stolen bases in 782 contests.
To make room on the roster, the Bluefish have placed outfielder Colin Roberson on the disabled list.
