Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, Sask. - Evan Herman recorded this first hat trick in the WHL as the Prince Albert Raiders (11-13-1-1) downed the top-ranked Winnipeg ICE (23-4-1-0) 4-1 at the Art Hauser Centre on Tuesday night.

Herman's hatty brought him into a tie for the team lead in goals with nine on the season. Landon Kosior picked up a goal and an assist in the win. Nolan Allan chipped in a pair of assists.

It was Kosior who got the scoring started 3:03 into the contest. His shot from the right point went off the left post and in past ICE goaltender Gage Alexander for the blueliner from Regina's fifth of the season.

Midway through the frame, Herman tallied his first of the contest on the power play. Allan Hit the The Pas, Man. product with a stretch pass to spring him on a breakaway. He fired a shoot past Alexander's blocker to double the Raiders' advantage.

Five minutes later, the ICE cut into the lead. Owen Pederson got Connor McClennon in behind the Raiders' defence with a saucer pass. McClennon made a quick backhand-forehand move, but Chaika was able to stretch and get his left toe on the puck. The rebound came back to McClennon at the top of the crease and his second attempt hit Chaika's mask. Pederson was able to knock the puck out of the air over Chaika to make it 2-1.

After Chaika made two breakaway saves in the first half of the second period, Herman struck again midway through the middle frame. He made a pass to Carson Latimer, who was driving hard to the net. Latimer got a stick on the puck, but Alexander made a great save to deny him of the goal. Herman followed up the play and potted the loose puck in the blue paint to give the Raiders a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Latimer thought he extended the Raiders' lead midway through the third. Remy Aquilon's shot from the point was stopped, but the puck trickled through Alexander, hit the post and stayed in the crease. Latimer fought to get his stick on the puck, but ended up knocking the puck in with a kicking motion. Originally called a goal on the ice, the play was overturned on video review.

Chaika turned aside the ICE for the remainder of the third period, stopping all 13 shots in the period.

That set up Herman's hat-trick goal with Winnipeg's net empty. Kosior shot the puck around the boards and it got past the Winnipeg defender at the blue line. Herman used his speed to chase down the puck and skate it into the empty net to wrap up the scoring at 4-1.

Chaika finished the game with 27 saves in his seventh consecutive start. Alexander made 18 saves in the loss.

The Raiders wrap up the first half of the season with a home-and-home series with the Saskatoon Blades, beginning on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Raiders Office and at SaskTix.ca.
