ICE CHIPS

The Winnipeg ICE opened a three game road trip in Prince Albert last night falling 4-1 to the Raiders. Evan Herman led the Raiders with three goals. It was the first hat trick of the season against the ICE. Owen Pederson had the lone Winnipeg goal, while Gage Alexander made 18 of 21 saves.

Forward Jack Finley made his ICE debut last night. Finley, acquired December 6th from Spokane, registered two shots on goal and won nine of 18 face offs.

15 year old defenseman Jonas Woo is projected to play his first WHL game tonight. The Winnipeg product was selected by the ICE 18th overall in last week's 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. The 5'9", 150 pound blue liner has 18 points (3 goals and 15 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 21 games with the Winnipeg Bruins in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League.

Earlier today, the ICE acquired 17 year old forward Alessandro Segafredo from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for defenseman Martin Bohm and a sixth round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft. Segafredo, born in Asiago, Italy, has 10 points (three goals and seven assists), is +4 and has six penalty minutes in 19 games in his first WHL season with the Thunderbirds.

ICE VS BLADES

Winnipeg (3-1) and Saskatoon (1-3) play eight times during the WHL regular season, with three games remaining following tonight.

WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

ICE defensemen Carson Lambos has been selected to represent Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship December 26 - January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer. This marks the second straight World Junior Hockey Championship where a member of the Winnipeg ICE will represent Team Canada. Forward Peyton Krebs had eight points (three goals and five assists) in seven games last year.

Defenseman Maximilian Streule has been invited to Team Switzerland's selection camp which opened today in Red Deer.

OH CANADA

ICE forward Zach Benson took part in the Capital City Challenge November 26th to December 1st in Ottawa winning a Gold medal. In the Gold Medal game, Benson scored the tying goal for Team Black with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation time to force overtime. They beat Team Red 5-4. Benson led all players in the event with seven goals and 12 points.

WHL HISTORY

With their 11th win of the season October 27th in Calgary, Winnipeg won the most consecutive games to open a WHL season since 2006 eclipsing the previous mark of 10 games set by the 2014-15 Kelowna Rockets and 2006-07 Vancouver Giants.

A 3-1 loss in Edmonton October 29th saw the ICE fall one game short of tying for the longest winning streak in WHL history to start a season. The 1988-89 Swift Current Broncos hold the record of 12 straight wins before losing in Saskatoon October 30, 1988.

The ICE roster includes 14 forwards, 9 defenseman and 2 goaltenders.
