
Helewka Scores Three; Rebels Win 4-1 over Medicine Hat

The Rebels came into Wednesday's game versus Medicine Hat looking to complete a rare season sweep of their long-time Central Division rivals. Red Deer was 5-0 this season versus the Tigers coming into this one.
FIRST PERIOD
The Rebels dominated much of the opening period but were unable to get one past Tigers goalie Mack Shields, who was solid in making 17 saves.
Medicine Hat came close when Matthew Bradley rang one off the crossbar but the opening period would end scoreless.
SECOND PERIOD
One of the league's hottest players opened the scoring in the middle frame. Adam Helewka banked in his own rebound off the skate of Shields for his 30th goal of the year. Adam Musil and Jake DeBrusk earned the assists as Helewka extended his point streak to eight games. 1-0 Rebels 3:07 into the period.
Helweka struck again to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead at the 10:55 mark, this time putting home a rebound after Musil had tipped a Kayle Doetzel shot on net.
Late in the period, Helewka would cap off his outstanding period by scoring his hat trick goal on a powerplay. DeBrusk fed Helewka with a perfect pass with Ivan Nikolishin picking up the second assist at 18:46 as the Rebels surged ahead 3-0.
THIRD PERIOD
The Rebels added to their big lead when Musil beat Shields for his 17th goal of the year. DeBrusk and Haydn Fleury set up the 4-0 Rebels goal 6:34 into the final frame.
Steven Owre broke ended Rylan Toth's shutout bid with a powerplay with 20.1 seconds remaining in the game. But it was all over by then as the Rebels powered their way to a 4-1 win.

Musil's first point of the game was his 100th career WHL point... DeBrusk extended his point streak to five games... Attendance for the game was 4715
