Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford picked up three of a possible eight points up for grabs this past week as they fin- ished a six-game home stand at the AESC.

The Abbotsford Heat came from behind to earn a single point but eventually fell 7-6 in a shootout victory to the Houston Aeros in the first ever school day game last Tuesday. It was the first loss for the Heat in five meetings against the Aeros this season.

The Heat were lead offensively by Hugh Jessiman who netted his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season. Akim Aliu notched a pair for the home team the next night in a 4-1 win over the Aeros on Wednesday.

The Heat dropped back-to-back decisions to the Peoria River- men with a 4-1 loss on Friday's inaugural Canadian Forces Ap- preciation game and were un- able to get one past the oppos- ing netminder on Sunday's Pink in the Rink in a 5-0 loss.

The Abbotsford Heat open a four-game road trip in Texas on Tuesday with their seventh game of the season against the Hous- ton Aeros.

The nine-day journey sees four games - all against Texas foes - with two games against the Aeros, and one each against the San Antonio Rampage and the Texas Stars. The Heat have been at their best against the Aeros this season having won five of six meetings with their lone loss coming in the shootout.

The Heat have also enjoyed some success against the Stars; in sev- en games this season the Heat have five wins to their credit. Meanwhile, the San Antonio Rampage have enjoyed a resur- gent second half of the season and start the week tied with the Heat with 70 points in a tight Western Conference.

The Western Conference stand- ings are as clear as mud and from day-to-day a team's position can drastically change. Two points are all that separate the final home-ice position for the Calder Cup playoffs and sitting on the outside looking in from ninth.

Forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond hit a notable milestone in the Heat's game against Peoria on Sun- day afternoon as he engaged in two scraps to reach 200 total fights in his hockey career. The 26-year-old veteran who hails from Levis, QC has recorded 141 fights over his seven-years as a pro to go with 59 over two seasons as a member of the Baie-Comeau Drak- ker of the Quebec Major Junior League.

Sporting the nickname "PL3," the 6'2, 209 pound Letourneau-Leblond arrived in Abbotsford on De- cember 2nd and has accumulated 19 fights in a Heat uniform despite spending the first two months of the season with the Calgary Flames. With 135 total penalty minutes, he leads the team in that category.
