Bulldogs Chill IceCaps with 4-2 Win

ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the league-leading St. John's IceCaps for the third consecutive time with a 4-2 victory in the first of two back-to-back away games on the Rock.

The IceCaps came out strong in the first period, with Bulldogs netminder Nathan Lawson making key saves to keep the game scoreless. St. John's was outshooting Hamilton 13-9 after 20 minutes.

But Hamilton scored the first goal of the game on a second period power play. Ian Schultz beat IceCaps goaltender Edward Pasquale for his fifth of the season at 8:03, assisted by Philip DeSimone. Then, with just 1:16 left in the period, Jason King pushed a rebound past Lawson to tie the game at 1.

At 11:19 into the third period, Newfoundland native Robert Slaney scored his first goal as a Bulldog and in the AHL, converting on a behind-the-net pass from Gabriel Dumont to give the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead. Then, with just 3:02 remaining in the third period, Joey Haddad scored his first as a 'Dog when he pushed his own rebound past Pasquale for the 3-1 insurance goal. Andreas Engqvist would add an empty net goal for the Bulldogs and Zach Redmond scored his sixth of the season to make it a 4-2 final. St. John's edged Hamilton 34-31 in shots.
