Taffe, Fontaine Propel Aeros over Heat

HOUSTON --- Jeff Taffe had a goal and three assists and Justin Fontaine scored two goals to lead the Houston Aeros to a 4-1 win over the Abbotsford Heat Tuesday at Toyota Center.

Jon DiSalvatore added a goal, and Chay Genoway had two assists for the Aeros. Joe Fallon made 26 saves for Houston, which improves to 29-20-3-9 and jumps into a tie for sixth place in the Western Conference with 70 points.

Fontaine put the Aeros up 1-0 at 11:06 in the first period with a power play goal, and he extended the lead to 2-0 two minutes later with another power play goal.

Fontaine has 13 goals this season and has 13 points in his last 11 games (2-11=13) with points in five straight games (2-4=6).

Taffe made it 3-0 with his 14th goal of the season at 4:30 in the second period, and DiSalvatore upped the lead to 4-0 at 15:08 in the second period with his team-leading 25th goal of the season.

Taffe has eight points in his last three games (2-6=8), with two multi-point games in his last three outings and a team-high 13 multi-point games this season. Taffe has two four-point games in his last three games for the first time since December 6, 2008, through December 27, 2008, when he had three four-point games in a five-game span.

Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond scored a shorthanded goal at 1:25 in the third period to cut Houston's lead to 4-1.

The Aeros continue their six-game homestand Friday against the Rockford IceHogs at 7:35 p.m. at Toyota Center.
