Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat gained a valuable 2 points on their division rivals, the Manitoba Moose, edging the Moose by a final score of 2-1 at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre on Tuesday night.

Newcomer Jon Rheault tallied his first goal for the Heat when he opened the scoring in late in the first period to give the home side a 1-0 lead after one period of play.   In the second the Moose would pull even on the power play on a goal by Manitoba's leading scorer Marco Rosa. Rosa would corral a rebound from a Sergei Shirokov shot and tally his 22nd of the season midway thru the second period. Despite being outshot 30-17 after two periods, the Moose were locked up with the Heat in a 1-1 tie.   The Heat would get the game winning goal from home town hero David Van der Gulik. Van der Gulik would take a great lead pass from Keith Seabrook and swoop in on Moose keeper Cory Schneider, snapping a shot five hole at the 13:51 mark of the third period. The Heat held sustained pressure by out shooting the Moose 43 - 20 in the game and held the Moose to just 3 shots in the final stanza.

With the win, the Heat move back to within two points of second place Rochester in the North and are now three points clear of the Moose for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division. The Heat reduces their magic number to clinch a playoff spot to two games with the win.   The Heat will face the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday and Saturday night. Game time on Friday night is 7:30pm. Catch all the action with Dave Sheldon and Craig MacEwen on Country 107.1. The Honda Way Pre game show will kick things off at 7 pm.
