Abbotsford Heat News Release

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The Abbotsford Heat would score goals in each period, with John Armstrong bagging the winner in a 3-2 Heat win over the Toronto Marlies in AHL action on Friday night.

The Abbotsford Heat and Toronto Marlies would get out to a fast and physical start in the first providing plenty of back and forth action. Heat forward Ryan Stone would open the scoring for the Heat at 16:26 of the first on Abbotsford's second power play of the game. Aldergrove's Matt Keith would provide a great screen out front allowing Stone to throw it on net putting it past Marlies goaltender Ben Scrivens. The Toronto Marlies would not take long to respond, as former Canuck forward Jeff Cowan would whack in a rebound past Heat goaltender Leland Irving tying things up at 17:52 making it a 1-1 game after one period.

The Abbotsford Heat would dominate the play in the second, keeping the majority of the action in the Toronto end. Lance Bouma would score the Heat's second goal of the night at 6:52 of the second, as he let a booming shot go from just inside the faceoff circle and past the blocker of Scrivens. Bouma's ninth of the season would give the Heat a one goal advantage heading to the final frame.

John Armstrong would lift the Heat to a 3-1 lead after collecting the puck in the slot and sliding it through traffic and Marlies goaltender Scrivens at 3:49. Toronto's Mike Zigomanis would get the Marlies close with a late marker at 13:44 of the third, as a bouncing puck would get caught up in traffic and elude Irving to make it 3-2 Heat.

The two teams will take Saturday off before resuming hostilities on Sunday morning at the AESC. Drop of the puck on this nationally televised game will be at 11:00 A.M.
