Rochester Americans News Release

Rochester, NY- The Rochester Americans came up short with seconds to play to the Syracuse Crunch tonight, falling 2-1 at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter. With the loss, Rochester drops its third straight and fifth in its last six games to fall to 17-20-2-2 on the season. Syracuse advances to a record of 15-20-1-4 with the victory.

Keaton Ellerby (1+0) led the Amerks tonight, scoring the lone goal of the contest and his first of the season. Kenndal McArdle (0+1) and Mike Kostka (0+1) also registered points, while netminder Tyler Plante posted 36 saves on 38 shots, earning him the second star of the game honor.

Mark Mitera (1+0) and Patrick Maroon, who was awarded top star honors, (1+0) netted one apiece for the Crunch this evening, while goaltender Timo Pielmeier stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced.

Syracuse struck first with a goal by Mitera just over midway through the opening period. After Kyle Palmieri (0+1) dished him the puck from the right corner, Mitera fired it on a wide open net as Plante was caught out of position. The tally was Mitera's third of the season. Nicolas Deschamps (0+1) was also credited with an additional helper.

The Amerks took advantage of a Mitera double minor high-sticking penalty that sent Michal Repik to the locker room at the seven minute mark of the second stanza. As Rochester was on the man-advantage, Kostka took the initial shot from the blueline. McArdle then picked up the rebound, which was ultimately chipped in by Ellerby to tie the game. The power-play goal was Ellerby's first on the season.

The Crunch answered back with a power-play goal of their own with less than a minute remaining in the game. Maroon broke the tie scoring his ninth goal of the year, while Josh Green (0+1) and Nick Bonino (0+1) earned the assists. Even with a power-play opportunity before the close of the game, the Amerks were unable to respond, leaving the final decision 2-1.

The Amerks return home to the Flower City on Sunday, January 16th to face the Lake Erie Monsters for the second time in three nights looking to avenge their 3-1 loss on Friday night. The 5:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Fans will also be able to watch the game live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26. After the game, fans can head down to The Distillery (1142 Mt. Hope Ave.) to meet the entire team and enjoy great food at the Amerks' official post-game party from 8-9:30 p.m.
