
Stars sink Rivermen

Peoria, IL - The Texas Stars (23-14-2-2, 50 points) defeated the Peoria Rivermen (25-13-2-1, 53 points) 3-1 on Saturday night at Carver Arena. Texas claimed the lead at 10:39 of the first period and cruised past the West Division leaders for the win. Stars forwards Greg Rallo and Brandon Segal each scored as Texas improved to 12-7-0-1 on the road this year. Defenseman Philip Larsen scored his first pro goal as the Stars pulled within three points of first place in the West Division. Texas rookie goalie Tyler Beskorowany (4-4-0) stopped 30 of 31 Rivermen shots in the win. Peoria rookie goalie Jake Allen (15-5-0) made 36 saves on 38 Texas shots for the defeat. Texas returns home from a three-game road trip on Tuesday at 7:30 PM to host Grand Rapids.
Texas took a 1-0 lead at 10:39 of the first period. Right wing Colton Sceviour sent a cross-ice feed to defenseman Philip Larsen. The Stars rookie blasted his first pro goal past Peoria goalie Jake Allen for the game's opening goal. Captain Brad Lukowich added an assist on the 1-0 lead. Texas pushed in front with a power-play goal by Greg Rallo with 1:25 left in the first frame. Left wing Francis Wathier and defenseman Dan Spang set up Rallo's 12th goal of the year at 18:35 for the 2-0 lead.
Peoria got on the board 5:34 into the second period. Right wing Graham Mink tipped a puck in the Texas crease for his 12th goal of the year. Forward Derek Nesbitt and center T.J. Hensick each added an assist on the play that trimmed the Stars lead to 2-1.
Late in the third period, Texas forward Brandon Segal scored an empty-net goal for his first goal of the season at 18:47, giving the Stars a 3-1 win.
The Stars return home on Tuesday, January 18th at 7:30 PM to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins. Every Tuesday, fans may bring any HEB store brand food product to receive $5 off their ticket price. Every Tuesday game is also 3-2-1 night with $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas, and $1 hot dogs.
