GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that infielder Carlos Arrieche and pitcher Brent Lysander have been transferred to the Short-A Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League. At this time, no countermoves have been made so the Cougars' current roster stands at 23 active players. Kane County, which clinched a playoff berth in the season's first half, opens the second half of the '08 docket this evening with a 6:30 p.m. game against Clinton at Elfstrom Stadium.

Vancouver, which is Oakland's short-season affiliate, began their season this past Tuesday. Arrieche (FA, 2002) returns to the Canadians after spending a portion of the 2007 season north of the border. Arrieche joined the Cougars on May 13 and batted .230 in 19 games. Defensively, Arrieche logged time primarily at third base while also playing second base.

Similar to Arrieche, Lysander played with the Canadians in ‘07 and returns to Vancouver after pitching in seven games for the Cougars this season. The 6'7" hurler took the mound seven times for the Cougars, going 1-1 with a 4.30 ERA. The righty was a 16th round pick by the A's in the '07 draft.

The Cougars open a four-game homestand against the Clinton LumberKings this evening at 6:30 p.m. Scott Hodsdon (3-5, 3.72) takes the ball for Kane County and is opposed by Clinton's Blake Beaven (4-4, 3.47).
