GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars knocked off the Clinton LumberKings, 6-2, Thursday night in front of 8,478 at Elfstrom Stadium to start the second half of their season the same way they did the first -- with a win. Scott Hodsdon posted a quality start, Chad Kerfoot posted three scoreless innings and the Cougars used a four-run eighth inning to sprint to the win.

Each team scored a run in the first inning, with the Cougars tying it against Blake Beaven on Corey Brown's RBI single. Clinton notched an unearned run against Hodsdon in the third, but the right-hander limited the opposition the rest of the way, posting his third straight quality start. He allowed two runs -- one earned -- on six hits, walked one and fanned six.

The Cougars tied the game in the sixth on a Justin Frash infield single and took control in the eighth with four unearned runs against Ryan Tatusko (1-4). Matt Ray grounded out to score Frash for a 3-2 lead, and Michael Richard belted a two-run triple and scored on an error for the 6-2 count. Kerfoot (3-0), who hit a batter for his only blemish during three frames, worked a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the game.

The Cougars (1-0) and LumberKings (0-1) continue their four-game series Friday night at 6:30 CT when Scott Deal (4-2, 3.33) faces Fabio Castillo (0-2, 4.80).
