Burlington Bees News Release
Appleton, WI (June 19, 2008) - The Burlington Bees began the second half of the Midwest League season in grand fashion Thursday night defeating Wisconsin 9-3. Mike Moustakas had three hits while Alex Caldera picked up his fifth win of the season.
The Bees scoring began in the first inning thanks in large part to three walks dished out by Timber Rattlers starting pitched Edward Paredes. The Bees scored four runs in the frame. David Lough walked with the bases loaded to score Johnny Giavotella. Clint Robinson hit a single that scored both Moustakas and Jason Taylor. The final run scored on a Jamar Walton sacrifice fly, which scored Lough. The Bees added another run in the second when Ryan Eigsti scored on a wild pitch.
Wisconsin scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to get within two runs but that was all they could come up with in the game. The Bees' bats got going again in the sixth inning. Juan Rivera led the inning off with a walk, moved to second on a ground-out and then stole third base. Rivera then scored on an Adrian Ortiz single. Giavotella then hit a double and both Ortiz and Giavotella scored one batter later on a Moustakas single. The Bees added one more run seventh inning.
Alex Caldera got the start for the Bees and pitched six innings allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Burke Baldwin, Zach Peterson and Chris Chavez each pitched one inning of scoreless baseball.
Both Ortiz and Moustakas had three hits in the ballgame while Robinson, Walton and Eigsti each had two. Moustakas and Robinson each also had two RBI while Giavotella scored two runs.
The Bees and Timber Rattlers continue the four-game series Friday night. Matt Mitchell is the expected starting pitcher for the Bees. First pitch is set for 7:05. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com
