BOISE, Idaho - Henri Kiviaho made 24 saves and the Idaho Steelheads scored four times in the first 13 minutes to skate past the Alaska Aces, 6-2 before 3,390 fans at CenturyLink Arena on Wednesday.

The Aces, who split the two-game series while playing their fifth game in six nights, eventually cut the deficit to two goals on Jason Gregoire's second period goal and Colten Hayes' (first goal with Alaska) third period marker.

Just 30 seconds into the game, David de Kastrozza's one timer sailed over Niklas Lundstrom's shoulder, 40 feet from the slot and Colton Beck buried a snap shot under the crossbar, from the right circle for a 2-0 Idaho lead at 4:02.

Steve Quailer's second goal of the year extended the lead to 3-0, giving the Steelheads three goals on three shots through 7:17 of play. Then the Aces gave up the puck through the middle of the ice, picked by James Livingston who fed Wade MacLeod at the goal mouth at 13:04 for a 4-0 lead, marking the end of Lundstrom's night in place of Andy Iles.

The Aces stabilized momentum on four more saves by Lundstrom late in the second period and began to threaten on two quality chances by Brendan Connolly. He misfired off the post late in the first period, and it took a Kiviaho pad save to deny Connolly on a breakaway early in the second period.

Gregoire finally broke through with four minutes left to cut the deficit to 4-1, finishing Connolly's centering pass from between the circles. Hayes teed up a shot from the right blueline just 1:38 into the third period, after an Idaho penalty kill, to slice the deficit to two goals.

The Aces earned another power play and opportunity to strengthen their rally on a tripping penalty to MacLeod. But after another kill, MacLeod came out of the box and capitalized on an up-ice rush with a one-timer, set up by Gaelan Patterson at 10:27 for a 5-2 lead and Jason Bast's league-leading 10th goal of the season finished the scoring at 13:11.

Iles finished the game with 23 saves on the Aces end.

NOTES: The Aces scratched Dustin Molle, Justin Breton, Quinn Sproule, Bryan Cameron and Jacob Doty ... the loss was only the 5th time for the Aces, in the last 19 games against Idaho (regular season and playoffs combined) ... Archambault's four-game goal scoring streak came to an end and he posted two shots on goal ... Gregoire's goal snapped a six-game drought ... the Aces penalty kill went 5-of-5 in the game.

Military Appreciation Night welcomes the Aces and Stockton Thunder for Alaska's next game on Friday, opening at 7:15 p.m. (GCI/KFQD)
