Hawks Win Wire-To-Wire
February 26, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Three goals in each of the first two periods lifted the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 6-1 win Friday night at Young Arena against the Sioux City Musketeers.
Waterloo seized the lead just 47 seconds into the game. With Nick Swaney camped at the top of the crease, Michael Davies lifted a shot under the crossbar from the left point, past a screened Cam Gornet. Waterloo struck again after killing a five-minute Sioux City power play. At 8:05, Liam Pecararo swiped the puck behind the opposing goal and set up a close-range finish by Shane Bowers.
Less than a minute later, Sioux City answered in transition as Jacob Wilson jumped into a rush and flipped a chance into the net from the right hash mark. However, Waterloo reassumed a two-goal cushion at 15:02 when Jake Ryczek struck against his former team with a shot from the high slot.
Waterloo added three more in the second, beginning at 3:18 when the rebound of Mikey Anderson's attempt from the left point created a follow-up opportunity which Zach Yon converted. At 6:52, Marshall Moise took the puck away behind the net and generated Ryczek's second goal of the night. Moise was on the business end of Waterloo's final marker at 16:27 cashing in as the trailer on a three-on-two rush on a feed by Cameron Orchard.
Cale Morris made 23 saves in the win.
Saturday, the Black Hawks continue their three-game weekend by visiting the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The busy sequence concludes Sunday against the Des Moines Buccaneers with a 3:05 home game at Young Arena. Tickets are available from waterlooblackhawks.com.
