Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - The Lumberjacks erased a two goal deficit in the final ten minutes of the third period to force overtime, and then Rem Pitlick completed the comeback, as Muskegon Lumberjacks knocked off the Omaha Lancers 3-2. Muskegon is now on a two game win-streak, and (3-1) in their last four games.
The Lancers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead four minutes into the first period. William Fallstrom chased down the puck and slipped it into the back of the net to give Omaha the advantage. With two minutes to go in the first period, the Lancers doubled their lead with a power play strike. Omaha's leading scorer Josh French wristed home a shot from the blue line to give them a 2-0 lead after one period.
The Lancers continued to pressure the Lumberjacks in the second period, but could not breakthrough for a third goal. Muskegon had a couple of quality chances late in the period, but Omaha goaltender Kris Oldham stood tall to preserve the Lancers 2-0 lead through two periods.
Midway through the third period, Muskegon cut the Lancers lead in half, when Matej Paulovic moved the puck to defenseman Grant Gabriele who rifled a shot toward the net, and was redirected by Giovanni Carabelli. It was Carabelli's second goal in two games, and the Lumberjacks only trailed by one with ten minutes to go in the third period.
After a failed power play opportunity, the USHL leading scorer Rem Pitlick utilized his speed to create space in the offensive zone, before blasting a shot into the back of the net to tie the game with less than ninety seconds left on the clock. Graham Lillibridge and Paulovic registered the assists on the goal, and with the goal, Pitlick extended his home goal streak to 12 games, and home point streak to 18 games.
The overtime frame left the crowd with loads of excitement. Lumberjacks goaltender Joey Daccord made a couple of spectacular saves to extend the game during the extra frame of hockey. Then with less than one minute to go in overtime, Collin Adams forced a turnover in the Lancers defensive zone, and moved the puck to Pitlick who scored his second of the game, and completed the comeback for a Muskegon Lumberjacks 3-2 overtime victory.
Pitlick and Paulovic led the Lumberjacks in scoring with two points each, while Daccord made 37 saves to help lift Muskegon to a 3-2 win.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (19-20-5) will return to action this tomorrow at L.C. Walker Arena, for a rematch with the Omaha Lancers (22-18-5). Muskegon will host their annual Scout Night when puck drops at 7:15 p.m.
