Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Ne. - The Storm scored twice in the second, Jake Kielly made 30 saves and the Tri-City Storm beat the Madison Capitols, 3-0, in front of a sell-out crowd Friday at the Viaero Center.
The win gives the Storm 57 points, tied for first in the Western Conference with the Lincoln Stars. Tri-City has two games at hand on Lincoln.
Alex Limoges (1g, 1a), Wade Allison (0g, 2a) and John Marino (0g, 2a) had multi-point games, giving the Storm points in six straight contests, tied for its second-longest streak this season.
Kielly backstopped his third shutout of 2015-16. The first-year USHL netminder is 11-0-3-0 in his last 14 decisions.
BOX SCORE
The Storm seized momentum in the second, potting twice. At 4:47 of the middle frame with the Storm on its second man up, Dan Labosky found a loose puck jarred off Ryan Edquist's pads and shot it to the center of the net to give Tri-City a lead.
Wade Allison knocked it off the goalie's pads to Labosky, with a secondary assist to Limoges. Labosky set up the play without the puck, lifting defenseman Tommy Muck's stick out of his hands and driving the net.
The 20-year-old forward Labosky is up to eight goals, two short of his second career 10-goal season. Tri-City's power play finished 1-for-4, giving it six man-up goals in its last 12 chances. The Storm's penalty kill stopped Madison on two tries.
With the Storm seeking a late-period goal, Jake Wahlin jumpstarted a rush to the left circle with just about two minutes remaining in the second. After a leg block, Carson Meyer dashed to the right post and stuffed for his team-best 26th goal of the season. Meyer also leads Tri-City with 42 points. John Marino earned the secondary helper.
Edquist made 29 saves in the loss.
Alex Limoges helped Tri-City stamp the Caps 18 seconds into the final period, scoring on Tri-City's second shot of the frame. After Allison back handed a shot off Edquist's right leg, Limoges flipped the puck over the desperate netminder for his 10th of the season. Marino received the secondary helper.
A potent defense limited Madison to six shots in the third.
The Storm earned its first ever win against the Capitols. The teams faced off twice last season in Madison's inaugural season.
Tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 27, the Storm hosts the Madison Capitols at 7:05 p.m. on "The Price is Right Night", presented by New West. Listen to the Storm's games on the Breeze 94.5 FM with David Fine.
