Hawks Swept by Indians

July 20, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Boise Hawks News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - A five-run fifth inning helped the Spokane Indians to a three-game sweep of the Boise Hawks, winning tonight's series finale, 6-4, before 3,841 fans at Avista Stadium.

The win keeps the Indians atop the Northwest League standings with five games left in the first half, while the Hawks dropped their fifth-straight - finishing their eight-game road trip, 1-7.

The Hawks took an early 1-0 lead when Zeke DeVoss singled, took second on a ground out, stole third, and scored on a Pin-Chieh Chen sacrifice fly. Spokane would tie it in the bottom of the inning, thanks to wildness by starter Su-Min Jung who walked five in two-thirds of an inning.

Boise would regain the lead at 2-1 in the second on a bases loaded fielders choice by Kenny Socorro, but Spokane would take the lead for good in the fifth - plating five runs. Zach Cone led off with a solo homer to tie the score, then following a Boise error, Hanser Alberto lined a two-run single off the bag at second to give the Indians a 4-2 lead. Rougned Odor added a two-run single that proved to be the winning hit.

Reggie Golden got the Hawks within 6-4 in the sixth with a two-run triple, but was thrown out at home trying to score on a wild pitch, bowling over catcher Carson Vitale to end the inning.

Kyle Hendricks slammed the door for the Indians, striking out five in two innings for the save, as starter Santo Perez picked up his fourth win.

Alberto had two hits in the win for Spokane, while Rafael Lopez went 3-for-4 for the Hawks, extending his hit streak to seven games.

Boise returns home tomorrow night, meeting Yakima at 7:15 p.m. - sending Austin Reed to the mound against the Bears John Pedrotty.
