
Hawks Play Giants Tough, Fall 4-2

Portland, OR - The Portland Winter Hawks took the WHL's top team, the Vancouver Giants, late into the game in a close battle, but couldn't get the tying goal and the Giants defeat Portland by a score of 4-2 at the Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night.
Evander Kane scored two power play goals, set up by Jonathan Blum and Casey Pierro-Zabotel, to lead the Giants. They got single markers from Craig Schira and Alex Rodgers.
Portland took the early lead when Chris Francis scored on the first Winter Hawk shot, firing a wrister past Vancouver goaltender Jamie Tucker off assists from Luke Walker and Troy Rutkowski.
Vancouver would take a 3-1 into the second period before Travis Ehrhardt scored on a power play wrist shot, off assists from Francis and Travis Bobbee, but Portland couldn't even the score.
Ian Curtis started in net for Portland and continued his strong play, stopping 49 of 53 shots. Tucker handled 25 of 27 shots for Vancouver.
On special teams, Portland went 1 for 3 on the power play while Vancouver finished 2 for 4.
Next up, the Hawks have back-to-back road games in Prince George, taking on the Cougars both Monday and Tuesday night.
