Portland Winterhawks News Release
Throughout the 2023-24 season, Winterhawks.com will feature monthly recaps of the organization's efforts to connect with and support the greater Portland community, as well as a look ahead at what's to come. Hockey is officially here, and we're proud to be a year-round staple of the Rose City and can't wait to see you all at an upcoming event!
Reedville Elementary - Veterans Memorial Coliseum Visit and Tour
We got to hang our with our friends at Reedville Elementary again, this time at our place! Twenty elementary-school students came to the rink for a tour, Q&A session, and meet and greet with the staff. This opportunity allowed the students to ask questions and explore the possibilities of working in sports. Thank you to the students and teachers at Reedville Elementary for visiting!
Tom's Tykes
We have completed our first round of our Tom's Tykes program which allows children the amazing opportunity to try hockey for FREE for the first time. Tom's Tykes provides hockey equipment, ice time and coaching to kids looking to experience the thrill of our great sport. Thank you to our friends at Toyota for their support of Tom's Tykes!
ABOUT TOM GUSTAFSON: Tom, father of Winterhawks Associate Coach Kyle Gustafson, was the president of the Portland Amateur Hockey Association and was responsible for the youth hockey league which would become the Portland Jr. Winterhawks. After Tom's passing in 2019, Tom's Tykes was established in his honor to help introduce the great game of hockey to Portland-area kids at no cost to them or their families.
Shop With A Hawk-
The Winterhawks had their eleventh annual "Shop with a Hawk" event this month. The Winterhawks, the team's Booster Club, Fred Meyer and the Sunshine Division all teamed up to brighten the holidays for children from Chief Joseph Elementary.
Courtesy of our Booster Club, each kid received a $150 gift card to help check off their Christmas list. The team helped the students shop and had a blast while doing it!
Huge thank you to our amazing partners at Fred Meyer, Sunshine Division, and Booster Club for making this event happen!
Blazers Boys and Girls Club-
On November 13th, the staff for the Portland Winterhawks visited the Regence Boys and Girls Club to mak the decisions and provide their input on our exciting collab coming up. More details coming up soon.
Thank you to the Boys and Girls Club for being amazing hosts!
