LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday that 2005-born forward Leo Braillard has been named to Switzerland's National Junior Team Selection Camp for the 2024 World Junior Championship.
Braillard, 18, was acquired by the Hurricanes in October off Canadian Hockey League Waivers from the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The product of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland was originally selected by the Cataractes in the first round (36th overall) in the 2022 CHL Import Draft. He has collected 44 career CHL points (16g-28a) with 80 penalty minutes in 64 games split between Lethbridge and Shawinigan.
The 5'10, 172-pound forward has represented Switzerland on the international stage previously, most recently representing his country at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer, AB. Braillard registered four points (3g-1a) with four penalty minutes in five games at the 2023 tournament where he served as an alternate captain. Last year, he also totaled 13 points (10g-3a) along with 10 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Switzerland U18 club team before joining the QMJHL.
The 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place from December 26th, 2023 until January 5th, 2024 in Gothenburg, Sweden. It will mark the 48th edition of the World Junior tournament and the seventh time it will be held in Sweden.
