Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The lead changed hands four times, but the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (39-30) got a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally for an 8-7 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (31-41) on Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in front of a sell-out crowd of 4,590.
In the first inning, RedHawks RF Mike Coles kicked up the left-field chalk for a leadoff double. CF Nic Jackson singled Coles home and reached second on the throw. 3B Ruben Salazar doubled Jackson home to give the RedHawks a two-run first inning lead.
The T-Bones batted around in the second. LF Ryan Fox doubled to the gap and DH Jim Fasano caromed a ball to first and legged out an RBI double to cut the RedHawks lead in half. The T-Bones tied it at two with 3B Jacob Blackwood's RBI double, the T-Bones third of the inning. With runners at first and third, 1B Damian Rolls singled Blackwood home and RF Greg Jacobs capped the scoring with the fourth and final double of the inning.
T-Bones starter RHP Chris Rhoads issued three consecutive walks to 2B Carlo Cota, LF Justin Justice and C Jeff Stevens. With runners at first, second and third, Jackson grazed the glove of T-Bones 1B Damian Rolls for a RBI single. In the fourth, the RedHawks crept within a run when Coles cued a ball to third and legged out the RBI bunt single.
Coles was clutch again in the game. He tied it at five-all in the sixth inning with a RBI double and was the go-ahead run on an error by T-Bones SS Jeff Helps. In the seventh, the T-Bones benefited from two wild pitches from RedHawks LHP Scott Koerber for a 7-6 lead. But the RedHawks rallied in their last at bats. Jackson singled, nabbed second and scored on Salazar's seeing-eye-single. With Salazar in scoring position, Piepkorn legged out an infield single. With runners at first and third, C Alan Rick pushed home the winning-run with an RBI groundout.
The RedHawks and T-Bones play in the third game of this four-game series tomorrow at Newman Outdoor Field. LHP Jeff Icenogle (2-0, 8.49) will toe the rubber for the RedHawks and LHP Luis Villarreal (5-3, 2.97) will get the ball for the T-Bones. Game-time is 7:02 p.m.
