Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-As temperatures fall during this first full week of December, the Waterloo Black Hawks and Slumberland Furniture are thinking of those who will be feeling the cold the most this time of year and working together this weekend to collect winter clothing for the Koats 4 Kids program.
Fans are encouraged to contribute winter coats, as well hats, gloves, and socks to help warm up the winter for children throughout Black Hawk County. The clothing will be gathered as fans come to the rink on Friday for the Hawks' 7:05 p.m. game against the Fargo Force. Those who bring a coat or other designated items will receive a $10 Attack Zone ticket.
"We are encouraging everyone to get into the spirit of Christmas this weekend, and this is a great way to do it," said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. "I know our fans will do what they can for this great cause, and I would like to thank Slumberland Furniture for their enthusiasm for this effort."
Koats 4 Kids provides coats and winter gear to low income children attending 29 schools in Black Hawk County. The project was started in 2012 and since then 2,995 coats and 1,522 pairs of boots and 565 snow pants have been shared with children in Cedar Falls, Dunkerton, Evansdale, Elk Run Heights, Hudson, La Porte City, and Waterloo. The organization's goal is to provide a warm coat to all disadvantaged children so they can stay warm while they wait for their school bus, walk to school, and play in the snow at recess.
Located near College Square Mall in Cedar Falls, Slumberland has been committed to the Cedar Valley for decades. For more than 10 years, they have sponsored the Slumberland Furniture Fan's Choice Player of the Year Award, providing a vehicle for fans to simultaneously recognize their favorite Black Hawks players while also contributing to good causes in the community.
