
Pair of Former RoughRiders named to Preliminary U.S. National Team.

CEDAR RAPIDS - 26 players with USHL experience were named to the U.S. National Junior Team Preliminary Roster in preparation for the 2018 World Junior Championship. The announcement was made yesterday by USA Hockey on the NHL Network. Two former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders were named to the preliminary list. Defenseman Scott Perunovich and forward Hugh McGing were among the 28 players who will be auditioning for a spot on the final 23-man roster that will represent the United States in the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship from December 26, 2017 to January 5, 2018 in Buffalo, New York.
McGing, from Chicago, IL played in 114 games for the RoughRiders during the 2014-2015 & 2015-2016 seasons, scoring 34 goals and notching 36 assists during that time. He is entering his 2nd season at Western Michigan. He has scored 12 goals and added 27 assists in 46 games with the Bronco's thus far.
Perunovich, from Hibbing, MN played in 56 games for the RoughRiders during the 2016-2017 season, scoring six goals and adding 15 assists. He is in his 1st year at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and has scored two goals and 10 assists through 17 games this season.
"Congratulations to Hugh McGing and Scott Perunovich on being named to the preliminary USA World Junior Roster," said RoughRiders Head Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "This is a tremendous honor and something to be extremely proud of. It is great to see Hugh and Scott having great seasons at Western Michigan and Minnesota-Duluth."
The players will attend training camp December 15-19 at Nationwide Arena and OhioHealth Ice Haus in Columbus, OH, followed by an additional camp in Jamestown, NY from December 20-23.
