Huntsville Havoc News Release
EVANSVILLE, INDIANA - The Huntsville Havoc roared back in the middle frame of their road game against the Evansville Thunderbolts and kept the home team scoreless in the third period to escape with a 3-2 win on Friday, Dec. 14.
The boys from the Rocket City spotted their opponents a two-goal lead before starting the comeback.
"The team found a way to battle back after digging ourselves a hole," said Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo. "We showed a lot of character finding a way to get two important standings points on the road."
The Thunderbolts (3-14-1) got on the board deep into the first period and doubled their lead barely a minute in to the second.
But after that second score, it took less than a minute for Huntsville's Connor Schmidt to respond, cutting the Evansville lead in half.
A few minutes later, the Havoc (8-7-1) scored on a 5-on-3 powerplay when a pair of Thunderbolts were called for separate infractions -- unsportsmanlike conduct and holding. Kyle Sharkey entered the Thunderbolt zone with the puck, dropped it back to Sy Nutkevitch who skated toward the slot before shuttling a pass to an open Rob Darrar in the right circle, who threw it in the back door to tie the game.
Huntsville took the lead for good when Pat Condon scored as the previous powerplay expired to go up 3-2. The Havoc outshot the home team 12 to 5 in the second period, scoring three unanswered in five minutes.
The defense and Havoc goalkeeper Max Milosek took the team the rest of the way, keeping Evansville scoreless despite being outshot 9 to 5 in the third period.
The win was Milosek's fourth in a row. Schmidt also recorded an assist to give him a two-point night.
Next Game
The Havoc will go from playing the team in the SPHL cellar to the one in the penthouse as they travel to play the first place Birmingham Bulls (16-2-0) on Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Pelham Civic Complex. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
Weiner Dog Christmas
The Havoc return to the Von Braun Center on Dec. 22, to play Evansville, but there will be a major attraction during the intermissions. It will be our first Weiner Dog Christmas. Register your dachshund on the Havoc app or website and you can race them on the ice for a chance to win valuable prizes.
