Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Jordan Harrison pitched a career-high seven innings without any hits allowed as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (67-49, 29-19) defeated the Great Lakes Loons (55-62, 28-19) in a 3-0 one-hitter on Friday. Harrison was followed by scoreless innings from Ryan Garton finish the Bowling Green victory and put the Hot Rods in a first place tie with the South Bend Silver Hawks. Andrew Toles also set the new franchise hits record with his 140th hit of the season.
Harrison and Loons starting pitcher Miguel Sulbaran each retired the first nine batters they faced before the offenses became active in the fourth inning. Great Lakes had two runners on base with one out when Tyler Ogle hit a line drive toward the right-center field gap that was caught by Joey Rickard on a running play. A walk loaded the bases, but Toles hauled in a fly ball from Devin Shines to end the top half of the inning.
The Hot Rods took advantage of the stop and scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth. Toles led off for Bowling Green with a single coupled with an error and stole third base on a walk to Joey Rickard. Luke Maile hit a ground ball to third for a fielder's choice that scored Toles for a 1-0 advantage.
Great Lakes broke up the no-hitter and nearly scratched the scoreboard in the eighth inning. Ryan Garton replaced Jordan Harrison and opened the inning with a walk to Malcolm Holland. After a fly out from Brandon Trinkwon, pinch hitter Kevin Taylor broke up the no-hitter with a single. Later in the inning with runners at second and third, Ogle bounced a tricky ground ball toward second base that was fielded cleanly by Tommy Coyle to produce the final out of the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Hot Rods capitalized to gain distance on the Loons. Marty Gantt started the inning with a walk and reached third base on a single from Patrick Leonard. A squeeze bunt off the bat of Brandon Martin scored Gantt and Bowling Green's second run. Following a sacrifice bunt by Toles, Joey Rickard laced a single to center that brought in Patrick Leonard and gave the Hot Rods a 3-0 lead that held up for the final score.
