Good's Sac Fly Lifts Bees to 6-5 Extra-Inning Victory

August 9, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

Riley Good brought home Wade Hinkle with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, as the Burlington Bees knocked off the Kane County Cougars 6-5 in the final game of the series at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Burlington took an early 5-1 lead, only to see Kane County come back and tie the game at five, but the bullpen stayed strong and the Bees (45-67, 19-28) picked up a timely sacrifice fly from Riley Good to defeat the Cougars (47-65, 17-29) on Friday night.

Michael Hamann (1-1) had not allowed a run all season, but the Bees got to him in the 10th inning. Wade Hinkle walked with one out to put the go-ahead run on base. Julio Concepcion's single put men at first and second for Zach Wright, who knocked a single into shallow left field. The bases were loaded for Good, who sent a fly ball into left field. Reggie Golden's throw home took a bad hop off Carlos Escobar's chest, allowing Hinkle to soar home for the go-ahead run.

Kurt Spomer (3-3) tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the win, while Cam Bedrosian (S, 6) got some help from Sherman Johnson to pick up his sixth save. Oliver Zapata's check swing produced a line drive to Johnson, who fired to first to double off Golden, who had singled with one out.

The Cougars scored first for the third straight game, picking up a run on a leadoff walk by Daniel Hurtado to Oliver Zapata and a RBI single by Jeimer Candelario.

Burlington answered right back in the second scoring two runs against Tyler Sikula. Julio Concepcion ripped a double down the right field line to start the frame and scored when Zach Wright's bunt was thrown into the stands behind first base by Sikula. Wright touched home plate on a two-out single from Pedro Toribio.

Exicardo Cayones and Wade Hinkle helped the Bees chase Sikula in the third, as Cayones reached on an one-out single and scored when Hinkle ripped a double off the right field wall.

The offensive outburst continued one inning later, with the Bees tacking on two more runs against Al Yevoli. Yevoli hit Riley Good to start the inning and then allowed a single to Chevy Clarke. Pedro Toribio singled home Good and then got into scoring position with his second stolen base of the inning. Toribio strolled home on a single by Angel Rosa to give the Bees a 5-1 lead after three and a half innings.

Kane County came roaring back to tie the game, scoring two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Cougars cut the deficit to two runs in the fourth after Carlos Escobar hit a towering two-run home run to score Marco Hernandez. In the fifth, Escobar got to Hurtado again, lining a single into right field with men at second and third and two outs. Joey Krehbiel came in and loaded the bases, but kept the Cougars from taking the lead. Krehbiel tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Cougars called on the Chicago Cubs 2nd round pick, Rob Zastryzny, to pitch out of the bullpen, twirling three scoreless innings in his Cougars debut.

Burlington heads home to take on Beloit for a three-game series. The Bees will be home for six games, playing three against Beloit and three against Kane County. Ryan Crowley and Dakota Bacus will square off on Saturday at Community Field.
