Hardaway, Pit Bulls Halt Alley Cats' Win Streak
January 17, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Miami Majesty News Release
Sunrise, FL. Former NBA star Tim Hardaway scored 14 of his game high 32 points in a decisive 4th quarter as the host Florida Pit Bulls (12-3) halted Indiana's season opening 18 game win streak with a 110-100 victory at BankAtlantic Center Monday night.
Hardaway scorched the Alley Cats on 5 of 8 shooting from three-point land and 10 of 12 free throws, many coming in key stages of the final period. He also dished out 6 assists. Terence Shelman added 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting and dominated the boards by collecting a team high 17 rebounds. Rodrique Djahue contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds.
The Alley Cats (18-1) were led by leading scorer Chandler Thompson who equaled his season average by pouring in 21.
The Pit Bulls' win evens the season series between the two ABA powers at a game apiece. Indiana won on Nov 13th, 114-101. The contest was an early 3pm start in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and drew an outstanding crowd.
"We've been eager to play Indy ever since we lost to them on their home court for our season opener," said Pit Bulls owner and President Demetrius Ford. "We watched them go undefeated all season and hoped they would stay that way until we met again here at the BAC. Unfortunately, for those that they beat along the way, they obliged us, but we refused to let them come into the 'Dog House' and leave with the win. My guys, everyone one of them, played this game as if it were the Finals, and Tim Hardaway was classic. He put up 32 right after hitting Maryland with 37 this past Saturday night. It was like watching him years ago in a Miami Heat uniform. It's a shame more basketball fans don't come out to watch him play. He still has that fire and I'm so proud to have him in this organization. 'T-Shell' (Terence Shelman) showed his heart as well and was a monster off the boards."
The Pit Bulls are next to take the court this weekend with games Friday and Saturday night in San Jose, California as they take on the powerful West Coach San Jose Skyrockets. The next home game is Monday night, Jan 23rd, with the commence then of a two night stand with the same Skyrockets in South Florida. Four big games.
The San Jose games, as all home games, will be broadcast in South Florida on NewsTalk 1360 WKAT and on the internet at 1360WKAT.com. For more information, call 305 781 5901 or visit www.floridapitbulls.com or www.abalive.com.
