Toledo Royal Knights News Release

Louisville, KY. The ABA Toledo Ice picked up a narrow win over the Kentucky Colonels in a hard fought battle in Louisville with the final score being 109-106. The visiting Ice jumped off to an early lead and maintained the pace taking a 14 point halftime advantage into the locker room. Midway in the third quarter, the Colonels went on a 10-2 run to take a two point lead going into the final quarter.

"Tonight we had very good ball movement," said head coach Melvin Newbern. "Our guys connected on a number of easy layups since they were doing such a good job of looking to make that extra pass. Even though Kentucky went on a nice run during the third quarter, our guys were still able to make some crucial stops down the stretch. Our press fueled us in the fourth quarter and helped seal the win."

This was the third time the two teams have met this season with the Ice taking all three contests. The road win puts the Ice overall record at 11-9. Leading the team in scoring with 21 points were Jamel Stanten and Gameli Ahelegbe. Lamar Rice was the Ice's third leading scorer for the game at 19 points. "It was nice to have six players hit double figures, that tends to show that guys were sharing the ball," said Newbern. The other three players in double figures for the game were Jake Beck and jamel Gooding each with 15 and Aaron Bates with 14.

The next game, a home outing for the Ice is this Saturday evening, Jan 21 vs the second place Pittsburgh Xplosion. Tipoff is at 7pm at Toledo's downtown SeaGate Convention Center. For more information, visit www.toledoice.com or www.abalive.com.
