Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA. June 17th, 2010) The Chico Outlaws are pleased to announce that representatives from the National Baseball Hall of Fame, based out of Cooperstown, NY, will be in attendance at Nettleton Stadium on Thursday, June 24th as the Japanese "Knuckle Princess" Eri Yoshida donates the jersey and bat she used in her US professional debut to the Hall.
Yoshida will start the game against the Edmonton Capitals, her third start of the year. The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held on the field during the game after Yoshida finishes up her night's work on the mound.
The 18-year old Yoshida made baseball history in her debut game back on May 29th against the Tijuana Cimarrones, becoming the first woman to ever pitch professionally in two countries. Going three innings, she allowed four runs on four hits in the game, an 8-6 Outlaws victory. She also became the first woman since the Negro League was in existence to record a base hit in a professional baseball game with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
In her last start, Eri went four innings, surrendering just two runs, one earned, as the Outlaws finished a sweep of the Yuma Scorpions by winning 8-4 back on June 12th at the Nett.
Game time is set for 6:35 pm as the Outlaws, 17-5 overall right now and currently sitting in first place in the Golden Baseball League's Northern Division, take on divisional rival Edmonton.
