
Toros Split Doubleheader in Tijuana

Tijuana, Mexico - The Tucson Toros split a doubleheader against the Cimarrones in Tijuana Thursday, winning the opener 3-0 and losing the second game 7-6.
In the first game Toros starter James Garcia threw Tucson's first complete game shutout of the season, posting 7 scoreless innings with just 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Garcia needed just 78 pitches to complete the gem.
The Toros offense gave Garcia all the support he would need before he even stepped on the mound. Centerfielder Josh Womack's leadoff double in the 1st inning was follow by a 2-run home run by Second Baseman Jose Valdez for his second of the year. Shortstop Ryan Priddy added an insurance run in the 7th with a solo shot, his third this season, to cap the scoring at 3-0.
Tucson was within an out of the sweeping the twin bill and the series. With a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th, the Toros surrendered 5 runs including a 2-out 3-run walkoff home run by Cimaronne Carlos Lopes to drop the series finale. Toros Third Baseman Wally Backman Jr. hit his second home of the year, finished with 2 runs scored while driving in a pair.
Tucson will return home and begin a 3-game homestand against the Chico Outlaws with a Fireworks Friday on June 11th at 7:00 p.m.
